Check the Recycle Bin (for Windows) or Trash (for Mac)
For Windows: If you’re using a Windows computer, check the Recycle Bin. The deleted Word document might be there. Open the Recycle Bin, look for the document, right-click on it, and select “Restore” to put it back to its original location.
For Mac: On a Mac, check the Trash. Open the Trash folder, find the Word document, and click “Put Back” in the menu bar or right-click and select “Put Back” to restore it.
Use the “Recent Documents” Feature in Word
Open Microsoft Word. At the bottom of the “File” menu, you may see a list of recent documents. If the deleted document is listed there, you can click on it to open and then save it to a new location to recover it.

Recover from AutoRecover Files
For Word 2010 and later: In Microsoft Word, go to the “File” tab and click “Info”. Then click “Manage Document” and select “Recover Unsaved Documents” (if you’re using Word on Windows) or “Open Recent > Recover Unsaved Documents” (if you’re using Word on a Mac). This will open a folder containing any AutoRecover files that Word has saved. Look for your document and open it, then save it.
For earlier versions of Word: The process may be slightly different. In Word 2007. for example, click the Office button and go to “Word Options” > “Save”. Check the box for “Save AutoRecover information every [X] minutes” and note the AutoRecover file location. You can then navigate to that location in Windows Explorer and look for the AutoRecover file of your deleted document.
Use Data Recovery Software
Panda Assistant supports various storage devices, including internal and external hard drives, USB flash drives, memory cards, and even SD cards. This makes it ideal for recovering data from a wide array of devices, whether you’re dealing with a malfunctioning hard drive or a mistakenly formatted USB stick. The software also supports different file systems, including NTFS, FAT, and exFAT, further expanding its compatibility with a variety of devices.
A key advantage of Panda Assistant is its deep scan feature. This advanced scanning method can locate and recover files that are not visible through a standard scan, making it more effective when dealing with data loss caused by system failures, malware, or other technical issues. The deep scan searches for traces of deleted files and reconstructs them, even if the file names or directory structure are no longer intact.
Check for Cloud Storage Sync
If you were using cloud storage services like OneDrive, Google Drive, or Dropbox to save your Word document, check the trash or recycle bin in the cloud storage interface. Sometimes, deleted files are moved to the cloud trash and can be restored from there.
Restore from a Backup
If you have a regular backup of your computer’s data, either through a backup software, external hard drive, or network backup, you can restore the deleted Word document from the backup.
