Finding deleted videos on YouTube can be a challenging task, as once videos are removed from the platform, they are typically no longer accessible through normal means. However, there are still some methods and strategies you can try to recover or find deleted YouTube videos, whether they are videos you uploaded or videos from other channels.
1. YouTube’s Video Deletion Process
Before diving into recovery methods, it’s essential to understand how YouTube handles video deletion. When a video is removed from YouTube, it could be deleted either by the uploader or by YouTube for violating community guidelines. Videos can also be set to private, restricted, or removed due to copyright issues.

If the video was deleted by the uploader, there’s a chance it could be restored, depending on whether a backup exists or if the video was temporarily hidden. However, if YouTube deleted the video for policy violations or copyright issues, recovery might be more difficult. In either case, it’s important to know the right tools and methods to search for a deleted video.
2. Checking Your YouTube Channel (If You Uploaded the Video)
If the deleted video was one you uploaded and it’s no longer visible on your channel, the first place to check is your YouTube Studio.
Steps:
Sign in to YouTube using the account you used to upload the video.
Go to YouTube Studio by clicking on your profile icon and selecting “YouTube Studio” from the menu.
In the Videos section of the YouTube Studio, check if the video appears in the “Videos” list. If it’s set to “Private” or “Unlisted,” it may not show up on your public channel but could still be accessible through the video URL.
If the video is truly deleted, you won’t be able to recover it directly through YouTube Studio unless you had a backup or the video was simply hidden.
3. Exploring YouTube’s Data Download Tool
YouTube provides an option to download your data, including videos you’ve uploaded. If you’ve uploaded the video and it’s missing from your channel, you can check if the video exists in your data archive.
Steps:
Go to Google Account Settings and click on Data & Privacy.
Under Data from apps and services you use, find YouTube.
Click on Download Your Data.
From the list of data, choose YouTube videos.
You’ll receive a downloadable archive containing your videos, which could include the deleted video if it was previously uploaded.
Note that this only works if the video was on YouTube and hasn’t been deleted by YouTube or removed due to violations. If YouTube removed it, this archive might not contain it.
4. Check for Video Backups
If you uploaded the video to YouTube and it was removed, but you still want to find it, check if you have any backups. Many YouTubers maintain backups of their videos on external hard drives or cloud storage services like Google Drive, Dropbox, or iCloud. If you had any plans to upload the video elsewhere or save it for personal use, there’s a chance the video could still exist in a backup.
5. Use the Wayback Machine to Find Deleted Videos
One of the most effective methods for finding deleted videos on YouTube is using the Wayback Machine (archive.org). The Wayback Machine is a tool that archives web pages, including YouTube video pages, and allows users to access old versions of a page. If the video was once available on YouTube and indexed by the Wayback Machine, there may be a cached version of the video or the page where it was located.
Steps:
Visit the Wayback Machine website at archive.org.
Enter the URL of the YouTube video that you want to recover (or the URL of the YouTube channel).
Click on Browse History.
If the Wayback Machine has archived the page, it will show a calendar with dates when the page was crawled.
Click on a date before the video was deleted to see if the video is accessible from the archive.
While the video itself might not be available through this method, the cached page may provide some useful information, such as the title, description, and comments. If the video is no longer available, you can at least gather some metadata.
6. Searching for Reuploads on Other Platforms
If the video was popular or viral, it’s possible that someone else reuploaded it to another platform. You can try searching for the video on other video hosting sites or platforms like:
Vimeo: This platform is often used for high-quality video content, and some creators reupload their videos here.
Dailymotion: Another video-sharing platform that may host the content.
Social Media: Many YouTube videos are shared across social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or TikTok.
Reddit: Some Reddit communities specialize in re-uploading content that has been deleted from YouTube.
You can use search engines with specific keywords from the video’s title, or check for keywords from the description or comments to locate the video elsewhere.
7. Use Google Search to Find Cached or Older Versions
Google often stores cached versions of web pages, including YouTube videos, and you can use Google’s search engine to locate deleted content. By searching for the video’s title or a unique portion of its URL, you may be able to find cached versions of the video.
Steps:
Open Google and enter the title of the video you’re looking for in quotes.
If the video was indexed, Google may show cached versions or other cached pages.
You can also use the “site:youtube.com” operator to search for YouTube-specific results.
If a cached version of the video page appears, it might have a link to the video or provide other useful information.
8. Contact the Video Uploader
If the video was uploaded by someone else and you want to access it, try reaching out to the creator directly. If the video was deleted by the uploader, they may have a backup copy of the video or may be willing to reupload it.
If you can’t contact the uploader, try reaching out to the YouTube community or other viewers who may have saved or shared the video before it was deleted.
